Passive Exposure Drug Testing

Posted by Rita Martin

When a child is exposed to illegal substance abuse they often also face other coexisting obstacles to a normal life - neglect, abuse, violence, and other vulnerabilities. Substance abuse is a disease, one that often prevents adults from doing what is in a child's best interests. Our environmental exposure test for children can help.

Our hair environmental exposure test is the only drug test designed to detect passive exposure to drugs and detect both native drugs and drug metabolites in the hair specimen. Drug metabolites are produced in the body only if drugs have been ingested. Children in drug exposed environments are most often not drug users themselves, so drug metabolites are typically absent in child specimens. However, the hair, like a sponge, can absorb non-metabolized drug (native drug) if it is exposed through things such as touching or being in contact with drugs or drug users.

Standard hair tests with other labs will only report a positive exposure result if drug metabolites are detected, even when the native drug is in the child's hair specimen. Our hair environmental exposure test reports a positive result if either native drugs or drug metabolites are detected.

A hair exposure test can provide evidence of drugs in a child's environment for the past 3 months. A positive test result suggests that the child has experienced one or more of the following: passive inhalation of drug smoke, contact with drug smoke, contact with sweat or sebum (skin oil) of a drug user, contact with the actual drug, or accidental or intentional ingestion of illegal drugs.

ChildGuard®  is the only child hair test designed to detect exposure to native drugs and drug metabolites. From http://www.usdtl.com/blog/we-can-help-you-help-them-with-childguard

Paternity & Relationships

Posted by Rita Martin

In law, paternity is the legal or biological relationship between a child and his or her biological father. Paternity law deals with the rights and obligations of both the biological or natural father and the child to each other as well as to others.

Paternity law involves the legal recognition of a child's biological father, typically established through genetic test. Each state has its own legal forms and requirements for establishing paternity. A paternity suit is often filed by the mother of a child seeking child support from the father. If you feel you may have fathered a child and wish to pursue paternal acknowledgement, contact ODACS/Edgar Medical at 888-528-5781

It is optimal to test not only the child and suspected father, but also the mother’s DNA to make the proper indentify possible. Today it is possible to take test specimens in multiple locations to send to one lab for identification. If mother and child are in one state and suspected father is court ordered to test even though he lives 6 states away, the test can be conducted locally and sent to lab.

Every state is different in their determination of the law. It is always best to seek out your particular state’s law on maternal, paternal and grandparental rights

If you are a grandparent that wishes to have visitation rights, see the follow site for information that will help. http://www.grandparents.com/family-and-relationships/grandparents-rights/grandparent-rights-guide

If you have questions about siblingship and feel you may have found a possible match, we can verify through zero relationship or 99.9% positive results with DNA testing.

DNA tests for one child, father and mother are currently on sale through the month of August 2015 for $325 when testing in our facility.

Testing Post Accident & Reasonable Suspicion, Due Diligence At It’s Best!

Posted by Rita Martin

There has been an accident reported in the warehouse involving the forklift operator. An excellent worker; first event; no one was injured, why send him/her for a post accident drug/alcohol test? For the safety, wellbeing and trust of your employees you should test all post accident events. You should never pick and choose which event by the circumstances. It could open your company up to litigation on fair labor laws.

The worker could be on new medication that is making them dizzy or less responsive. The next time someone may be injured and it could have been prevented.  Or, the employee is not normally a drug user, but just tried it this one time. However, co-workers were aware of it! No worries, if they got away with it, why not the boom lift operator? You could loose the trust of your employees, that you have their safety uppermost in mind.

Your accounting supervisor has reported a major plunder within the department. It has cost you an overdraft when making payroll. After further investigation with the supervisor, one clerk specifically had been causing some disruption within the department, becoming easily agitated and no longer as well groomed as in the past. What is your next course of action? This is reasonable cause for suspicion, even though this employee may have not made the offending mistake. Disruptive attitudes and demeanor may be enough to throw otherwise diligent employees off the attentions at hand. You can test the one employee exhibiting signs of possible drug or alcohol abuse.

Due diligence is your responsibility when employee safety and company liability are at risk.  To better prepare your staff, consider our On-Line Supervisor Training.  At $59 per employee, it is your best bet for securing a well- trained supervisor! http://www.odacsinc.com/training
